Roan van de Moosdijk dominates EMX250

Roan van de Moosdijk raced to a devastating win in the first moto of the Belgian round of the FIM European EMX250 Motocross Championship at Lommel to close to within six points of the series lead.

Fastest in qualifying practice by two-and-a-half seconds on his F&H Racing Team Kawasaki he soon advanced from a fifth-placed start to complete the opening lap in third position before moving into the lead with an immaculate inside pass on lap four. With a clear track ahead the Roan extended his advantage relentlessly at more than two seconds a lap to control the race and score his fifth victory of the series by nearly twenty-two seconds. The Dutch teenager's victory also saw Kawasaki take over the lead in the series manufacturers' standings.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “Free and timed practice were good, especially the timed practice where I was almost three seconds faster than my rivals. My start in the race was not the best but I was still fifth; I knew that it would be a long race and that not everyone would have the speed until the end of the race. I made a few quick passes and when I took the lead I just rode two or three fast laps and saw on the pit board that the gap was already twelve seconds so then I just put it on ‘cruise control’ and finished the race twenty-one seconds ahead of Haarup. The track was rougher for the race with bigger holes and that’s what I like; then I can play with the bike and I think it will be good for tomorrow.”

Henry Jacobi and Adam Sterry, the F&H Racing Team's duo in the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship, qualified sixth and seventh for tomorrow's GP points motos after solid rides. The German, only eleventh in practice, maintained a consistent pace throughout the race after a good start, while the Welshman, third fastest in practice, recovered well from a fall on the second lap. Bud Racing Kawasaki's American Mitchell Harrison could also be satisfied with fourteenth place on his first experience of the rugged sand track.

Henry Jacobi: “For me it’s always difficult to do a fast lap in practice; the more I try the slower I go as I make mistakes with the brakes, clutch and so. It’s the same every year; it seems that I don’t learn it. My gate pick was not so good because of that but I got a good start and could follow the guys in front for as while; I also tried to save some energy for tomorrow but it didn’t work as I lost my rhythm. Then I decide to ride my own race; we’ll see tomorrow how it will go but I think I can got a top five or six and I will be happy with such a result at this track.”

Adam Sterry: “I had good results in the practice sessions and I think I got my best start of the season in a Qualifying race. I was in fourth after the first corner, then I made a small mistake; it was my fault and I crashed, losing a few places. I lost my rhythm and had another crash but I came back to seventh, not the worst gate pick for the races.”

Tommy Searle, the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team's rider in the MXGP World Championship, withdrew from the event after completing just eight laps during the first practice session. Tommy sustained a hand injury last week; nothing is broken, but he was in pain and it was decided that it was preferable for him to rest for a further week as he will defend his lead in the British Championship next weekend.
